Sailing Home (Poem)
Vast oceans so bright,
dancing waves rolling by,
waters shimmering with light,
I can hear the thunders cry,
no land, no shore at sight,
only tides low and high.
Leaving behind all my woes,
we're sailing towards freedom,
the wind leads us where it goes,
to a mysterious kingdom,
where there are no worries or throes,
to a life; so called awesome.
Difficulties and obstacles,
need to be boldly faced,
just waiting for miracles,
takes you nowhere near the best,
the beauty of a spectacle,
is the feat that I've embraced.
It's been a long time,
since I've been far away,
from my parents so sublime,
benevolence for me they pray,
and their love for me is prime,
which has moulded humanity like clay.
Living on the sails,
I've become so homesick,
furious sharks and graceful whales,
but for landmarks do we seek,
to live and tell our tales,
beyond the oceans so bleak.
Without my guiding compass,
thy love alone is my guide,
as evergreen as lush grass,
and as I see the horizon so wide,
a new hope rises; no hatred can surpass,
a last try to conquer the tide.
At last comes to my view, dearest land,
ships docked on the ports of Rome,
my ship comes to a halting stand,
the crowds praise us sailors' epitome,
as I rush forth to take thy hand,
and spread the word that we've sailed Home!
